International Student Server at Sekai Cafe
Served coffee and told stories
いらっしゃいませ! Sekai Cafe is a cafe in Kyoto (Google Map link) where patrons can talk to students from all over the world. Garbed in my traditional attire, I gave presentations on Pakistan’s culture, food, traditions, and clothes, and served coffee and cake.
If you’re in Kyoto, drop by and say hi to them and listen to the stories the servers have to tell. They posted frquently on their Instagram page.

Text reads:
“Lunch and Coffee, English Conversation with International Students.
This is a café where you can enjoy interactions with international students in a relaxed atmosphere, along with delicious coffee and cakes served by them. Conversations are mainly in English, so of course it’s great for those who want to practice speaking English, but even if you’re not confident, no problem! Many of the students also understand Japanese, and with gestures and body language, you’re sure to have a fun time together.
For the international students, it’s also a wonderful chance to introduce their home countries to many Japanese people and help others understand them better. They look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. Of course, you’re also welcome to simply use the café. Relax and enjoy your time in the beautifully renovated traditional Kyoto townhouse.”
